Voicebox Drama Workshops

News
Voicebox enables young people to engage with sensitive issues, such as: gender, sexuality and mental health through the use of characters and stories in drama workshops. JLF has recently awarded a third small grant (£5,000) to Voicebox and this is an update from their Finance and Administration Director, Fredi Beard.

Voicebox enables young people to explore any unhealthy impacts that ‘living up to masculinity’ can have on them, challenges negative aspects and encourages them to adopt healthy masculinities. Explorations of masculinity can have a host of benefits for young people and their community;  focussing on caring for themselves and others enriches their lives and increases both wellbeing and life opportunities.

Our work explores a range of themes and issues related to masculinity. These include:

  • Violence
  • Antisocial behaviour
  • Engagement in education
  • Mental Health
  • Physical Health
  • Social Health and Engagement
  • Healthy Relationships

JLF’s grant to Voicebox has been crucial to our small organisation. We have been able to plan and deliver existing and new drama workshops in schools, as well as participating in major charitable projects. This has furthered our mission of transforming young people’s lives for the better through exploring the impact of masculinity on their lives.

Support from JLF at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic enabled us to continue developing and delivering our activities throughout this difficult time. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with JLF, are incredibly grateful for being able to use the meeting room and also very fortunate to have learned from the foundation in many ways.
